Welcome to Dedalomarket. This website makes its debut on September 19, 2010. It strives to be a point of reference for everyone interested in beautifully-designed utilitarian and personal objects and art pieces. It's a place on the internet for people looking for highly creative, unique gifts and finely-finished, innovative pieces made in limited quantities. We invite those who visit us to become a part of our community, which holds the manual arts in highest regard. We welcome your suggestions and ask for your patience as we "make the road by walking", to paraphrase the Spanish poet Antonio Machado.
The poet Octavio Paz once said, "The handcrafted object satisfies a need no less imperative than hunger and thirst” .Dedalomarket.com exists to satisfy that universal need. The story begins with the initiative to open a space where young urban artists and artisans could exhibit and sell their work. Not an art gallery per se, or merely a run-of-the-mill crafts shop, but a meeting space and a place to bring together unique, handcrafted objects that share only the criteria of quality, taste and artistic sensibility.
The project took shape in a Republican era mansion in Barranco District in Lima, Peru, which bore the name Dédalo Arte y Artesanía. Since the shop first opened its doors, founder María Elena Fernández has brought together over a thousand artists and artisans to help them organize and to discuss designs and trends.
The challenge for Dedalomarket.com is to virtually replicate the delightful experience of shopping in the old mansion with its friendly, knowledgeable sales staff that helps customers find the perfect object. Rachel Ray unwittingly suggested the name of this website in the feature she did on Dedalo Arte y Artesanía for her Tasty Travels program. As she explored every corner of the many rooms, she frequently referred to the shop as Dedalo market.
Comments of some of our visitors:
Dédalo is a must see.
Even if you don't plan to spend any money, it is well worth the visit. Staged in an old refurbished house in Barranco, a block away from the sea, it offers Peruvian non-traditional workmanship at its best. You will find beautiful handmade ceramics, blown glass, design-winning woodwork, stone carvings and the latest in textile design, among other works of art on a world class level. They have a nice coffee shop on the inside patio, a children's toy area, handmade jewelry and a permanent exhibition of unique objects made out of recycled materials. There is no pressure to buy, so you can just wander at your leisure through the treasure filled rooms.

Awesome place
The place is perfect to find a unique gift. The cafeteria is really good, the pecan pie in particular is to die for.

I loved the atmosphere And the way every designer had the chance to show their art pieces.
I thought some things were a little pricy, but the experience is worth it even if you don't want to buy anything ... Nice jewelry, nice purses, nice furniture.

One of the best shopping spots in town, Dédalo occupies a labyrinthian mansion in a quiet corner of Barranco. As you wander around the never-ending rooms, you will be struck by the beauty and uniqueness of the objects displayed: home accessories, toys, decorative arts, clothing, jewelry, ceramics, and a long etcetera.
No surprise, as most pieces are designed and crafted by artists and artisans. The rooms are organized by type of object, though some host temporary expositions by local artists.
Dédalo was conceived in the early 90s by María Elena Fernández as a colourful alternative to mass-produced items, which at the time where being heavily imported by department stores, leaving limeños with few alternatives. Prices are a little expensive for Peruvian standards, though not for the outstanding products.
A fun and extraordinary shopping experience.
In a mansion on Barranco's designer store strip, Dédalo brims with homewares, books, toys, one-off furniture, clothes, fine alpaca shawls, handbags, ceramics and locally crafted jewellery. A garden cafe, too.
